The first in a series of 3 tutorials Imma' be doing. People have been attacking me with questions like rabid weasels lately so's I figured I should probably try to give something back to this wonderful online community anyways. I'm about three years overdue.
I'm Trying to make these as noob-freindly as possible, because I remember when I was there, and I remember how confusing everything could get.
So, Enjoy! And if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask! I'll be making a coloring tutorial next, don't worry.
-------------
This is not the only way to do this. This is simply the way I do. I encourage you to seek out other methods and tutorials and play with it, because that's the best way to learn!
(PS: Isolating lineart means that you make the lines on a seperate layer so you can color underneath them and stuff.)
(resubmit real quick )
Edit: I've since changed versions of photoshop that I use, but this method still works exactly the same in CS2 and beyond.
ok, i'm confused as hell. i'm no expert, but what i've always done is set the lineart to multiply. problem is, if the image is slightly yellowed - it stays yellowed unless you manipulate it otherwise - and there can be lots of scratch and other stuff.
anyway, my question is: what the hell does selecting and deleting the channels thing do? it works way better than what i've been doin, but i don't understand it at all : /.
I know a lot of people who use multiply, I used to do the same!
This actually deletes all the white around the lines, not just makes it see-through like multiply does.
I find that I like it a lot more than multiply because if I remember right, things got a little wonky when I wanted to do different things with other layers because of the white that was just hiding. This method makes it so its just like you drew it on a seperate layer, no see-through white! But it is kind of a pain to memorize. Once you have it down though, it's not much harder. 8)
oh very nice tutorial. However I was wondering.. I think this tutorial doesn't fit every artist. The style of drawing is very dependent on it. You can make clean sketches with just a few guidelines left. Mine are always full of circles and useless lines. these mostly dissapear when I ink it. but I can't color something right from scrap, that would be messy!
But it's a very nice tut though, I probably gonna try isolating my line-art this way, maybe it works.
Ohh come on!!!! I love U for this one. U cant belive how many times I was sitting in front of PS and selecting and deliting and adjusting brightness and deleting again til I got my linework isolated!
A 1000 thanx again!

I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
